First of all, I want to welcome you to the site and thank you for your interest. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to Sol or any other member of our Staff for support. Our Discord is also a great place to ask questions and meet the community of players.
WHAT IS SOUL TRIGGER ANYWAY?
It is an action roleplaying game that is set far in the future in a galaxy many many light-years away from our own. The easiest way to explain the world you would rp in, is to say that the galaxy is similar to that of Star Wars, with influences from the game Destiny. The combat and powers of the players are similar to Shōnen anime/manga like Dragonball Z and Bleach. Very diverse and flashy super powers mixed with a huge futuristic sci-fi galaxy.
You can check out the Story Synopsis in our Lore section.
WHO WOULD I PLAY?
You would be playing a Vessel. A Vessel in this world is a person with extraordinary abilities. Some have super strength, some can create objects, and some have elemental abilities. The types of powers are endless. It really is up to your imagination what kind of powers you want for your character.
They are called "Vessels" because they have made a pact with another being called a "Soul". A Soul is an ethereal being and the source of the Vessel's great powers. They are a spiritual representation of the Vessel they inhabit and also a companion of sorts. They are similar to Stands (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) and Personas (Shin Megami Tensei: Persona) and work in a very similar way, as in they are physical manifestations of a person's psyche and subconscious used for combat.
Souls were given to the people of this Galaxy by a mysterious being called the "Oracle". Think of it like the Traveler from the Destiny series of games. The Oracle is an ancient and immensely powerful machine entity, and the source of Souls which provide the awesome powers of the Vessels.
You can read more about the Oracle, Vessels, and Souls in our Lore section.
ARE THERE FACTIONS?
Yes, there are three primary factions in the game currently. The main two are the Alliance and the Union with the Syndicate being a much smaller entity.
The Alliance is the oldest of the factions. Think of it like the Republic from Star Wars. It is a democratic parliamentary republic consisting of thousands of star systems throughout the galaxy.
The Union, on the other hand, is a powerful empire ruled with an iron fist by seven Lord Councilors, called the Supreme Council. Many of the Galaxy's wealthy and elite are among their number. The Union is very similar to the Sith Empire from Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The last faction, and the smallest, is the Syndicate. This is a more neutral faction as it supports and benefits from both of the other two. The Syndicate is a criminal cartel made up of several prominent crime families. It is the closest thing to the Mafia that Soul Trigger has. Organized crime is their forte and they do it very very well.
You can read more about the Factions in our Lore Section.
WHAT IS THE GAMEPLAY LIKE?
If you've ever played D&D, Pathfinder, or any other tabletop rpg, you'll be right at home here. We use a narrative style of roleplay. You either create or join threads and roleplay with other players. There are multiple kinds of threads including Adventures, Battles, and Events. As you complete these threads, you turn them in for rewards. A staff member will complete the request and then update your character sheet. That is how you level up and increase your power in the game.
You can view the different types of threads and the rewards for completing them in the RP & Rewards section of the Game Handbook.
I mentioned tabletop games because in some of the threads, like Battles and Skirmishes, we use a dice-based combat system. It is the most fair and balanced way to engage in battles that we can manage on a forum. You attack or defend and the results of those actions are mostly dependent on dice rolls. The other side of that, as a way to boost the dice rolls are your character's stats (which are leveled up as you rp) and these stats can help improve your rolls. The more your rp, the stronger your character will become.
You can study up on our Battle System in the Game Handbook and see the stats that make up your character in the Character Info section.
HOW DO I CREATE MY CHARACTER?
If you follow the steps below, you shouldn't have much of a problem creating a character and getting started.
Your Display Name (or username) should be whatever handle you'd like to be called on the Forum/Discord. It does not need to be your character's name. That will be added to your Mini Profile when your character is accepted.
It is advised that you take a look at the Mini Profile Guide to get your avatar setup correctly!
Once you've got a grasp on the areas labeled above, head on over to the Applications section to fill out a New Character Application. A member of staff will read and approve or deny the application. Once you have been approved, you can start your own adventure by heading over to the Roleplaying section of the forums to create or join a thread.
Again, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Sol , a staff member, or via our Discord. We are always happy to help any new players.
